Glad to see your back into practice. This too has been a very difficult year of practice for me but I am looking forward to working harder in the coming months. Although, I will say that when my ability to go "inside" and be quiet seems to have increased. Anyway, congratulations on your return. Much Chi.
Good for you, Max - Gráinne, Tuesday:January:31:2006, 20:12 Reply
Well done on completely another gong. I'm interested to read your log that you didn't feel your heart was in it. I wonder why. I'm feeling the same about squats. They're a real chore in the last month especially. Wonder if there's some info in our qi field that's influencing us to feel that way?
heart not into it, response. - Gráinne,, Wednesday:February:1:2006, 3:57 Reply
I don't know how to answer your question, but I'll try. The times I've noticed when I'm really into my practice have been when I am actively doing both a group practice as well as a solo practice. Perhaps the chi field is felt stronger in a group and being around people sharing the same experiences is motivating. I have recently been studying about prayer and most importantly about the power of emotion when praying; combining thoughts, feelings and emotions together. When my qigong practice is most fulfilling is when my emotions are happy, energetic and fully present. So now I am setting my emotional state before I start my squats. I start smiling from the inside out. I start to feel all the emotions I desire before I begin, and then I start my gong. I've only done it a few days but with great results. If I think wall squats are hard then my energy level is at a low level and harder to do. These are just some thoughts I am working through and I would love to know how you are dealing with the issue. Much Chi, Max
State of mind - Gráinne, Saturday:March:11:2006, 13:56 Reply
Hi Max,
I've been pondering what you've written. I've found that, as you suggest, the state of mind is very important before launching into the physical exercises. It's tempting to get straight into them. I'm starting to add 3CM to my practice. I think this can help.

Thank you for your support, Max. I considered this a kind of a test-gong to see if I could really commit to practice everyday. So now I've no excuse not to continue and make more effort. I think the fact that I was doing such a small amount helped me stick to it - more manageable. Something has definitely shifted. Much more to do!
Smart approach Grainne - Max, Saturday:November:19:2005, 23:19 Reply
Yeah, starting small and building confidence in yourself is the right way to go for some people. I think it all depends on your motivation for doing the gongs. I needed to start very small and build up. For me, it was and still is a mental battle more than physical. Now I find it easier to do my gong because it's part of me...... and I couldn't have always said that. Anyway, continued best wishes that your "shift" is a journey of joy, health and happiness.

75 Wall squats is a great accomplishment. And yes, the benefits are so subtle as to be missed or discounted. However, I know how I feel when I finish 3 minutes or 3 hours of qigong.

I just placed an order for the level 2 Body/Mind DVD. I know most of the exercises but I'm looking to increase my knowledge and practice. BTW are you also practicing the alternative to wall squats that they are teaching now..... I think it's called "hanging." Similar to the Bow Bend but you hang there like an umbrella. I've done some but feel I need hands on instructions to really feel comfortable with it. Well, much chi to you, Max

PS. Squattery = LOL Such language! Were you raised under squattocracy?

Thanks everybody for the encouraging comments. But I still need to make improvements on my practice. During this tumultuous period of my life, I've been just focusing on consistancy; but now after my move, I feel the need to go back and give more time to my practice. My previous hour-long sessions were producing many more results. However, I must say that just the act of making the commitment to always do chi lel--everyday--has had its virtues as well. I've had to consider what Chi lel practice means to me within the context of my daily life and reconsider that, time and again, with the continuing commitment to daily practice.
---Be well...

I've been reading your diary entries nad find them really supportive, I find me going "me too, me too" often. I wish though that I knew what you are all talking about, my teacher uses some different terms....
can you see if you can work out what you call...
Stretching Qi- arms out at belly height, wrists flexed back, pumping in and up, out and down...
Bow Body- forward bending stretch with head towards knees.
Rotate Hips- legs at shoulder width, pelvis circling
LQUPQD=LCUPCD!
Would be most grateful, I think that the terms I am familiar with are the old Zhineng Qigong ones? pre-Chi-lel maybe?

Cheers all
Lennoir

Found in Translation - max, Wednesday:September:7:2005, 6:11 Reply
Lennoir,

Stretching Qi = Chan Chi... I know that one well but I'm still unsure of the spelling.

Rotate hips = Haola Hula, although the width of your legs very depending on experience.

Bow Body = I'm not sure if you are referring "Press Up And Down" Probably different. Disregard.

My recommendation is to go to to the Chi-lel Worldwide link on the home page, then at the top click "USA" Chi-lel organisation. Read the newsletters. There is a tremendous amount of powerful information that should help you out.
Much Chi, Max

Lennoir, These are some more names from the body mind method.

1.Crane's Neck Dragon's Head
2.Squeeze Shoulder blades Shrink Neck to Open Meridians
3.Erect Palms Separate Fingers to Open Meridians
4.Yee Chi Thrust
5.Bend Body Arch Back to Loosen Dumein
6.Turn Waist Move Kwa Return to Dantien
7.Open Front and Back Kwa
8.Kneeling on Top of Feet to Connect Three Joints
9.Spring Leg Flex Foot to Draw Taiji
10.Return Chi to One

Also, Stretching Qi sounds like it's is called "Chun Chi" and not "Chan Chi" as I said earlier.

Bow Body (as Yuan Tze calls it) is the 5th segment in Body-Mind form. Is that the same as the "Press Up and Down" of Chi-Lel?

Thanks for your good wishes, Max. I'm doing squats too - only a very small number as I have real difficulty with them. I'd like to concentrate mainly on the technique in this gong as I feel this will stand by me for future practice. Finding they're getting easier as the gong goes on and for the first time ever, I actually ENJOYED doing them this morning! Best wishes to you. G.
Squatting - Lennoir, Wednesday:September:7:2005, 0:23 Reply
Hey we are the squatters! I am doing 50 a day and adore them, sometimes I do extra for the sheer pleasure of qi racing up and down and freeing my back.
You are full of good advice Max, I saw Grainne's squats a while back and she has so inspired me with what you can achieve in a short itme if you keep you mind involved in the case. It is that old prinicple of starting your practice slowly, knowing the fine line between always challenging but not overpushing yourself.
Yuan Tze, the teacher at the centre I study at, gave a big rant about that just the other night. I was saying that rotate hips always heals the pressure that bow body brings to bare on my lower back. He has the loveliest smile as he in-a-round-about-fashion says well work harder but do less!
Oh the paradox(s) that layer qigongery.
Good luck on it all, all of us.

Yuan Tze sounds like a great teacher as I know the value of having that guidance. My old teacher, Ed Suzuki, is a walking ball of compassion and full of inspiration. He came to Chi-Lel by way of not wanting to have major back surgery and now walks around with what he calls a new back. Such a great smile and always so giving you can't help but love the guy. Anyway, 50 wallsquats is incredible and I know that the Chi will be flowing through your body and life. By the way, Have you experienced any healings from the squatting yet?
Much Chi,
Max

Hi Max
I guess that I am sporting a few fine squatqi healings... I am much healthier, and my back takes more and more activity before it gets sore. Initially I couldn't get down at all, legs splayed and heels lifting described me, but now I have my feet all but together by the end of the day. I love it. I love it. There hasn't been any really exotic reactions which I count as a blessing, it has all just been incremental. I am thinking that the 50 could become 100 before too long, but I need to hold myself to the principle of gradual increase that YuanTze goes on about. I need not to get head of where I am....
Thank you ever so for that advice on the translations, I'll check out that site you recommended.

From what I understand wallsquats are one of the most powerful qigong exercises one can do, and in my experience that appears true. When I first started doing wallsquats years ago my goal was 3 per day. I had very a difficult time at the beginning and I couldn't go down too far. But like you I SLOWLY started to enjoy doing them........A short story...I'm 41 and I played basketball last night with 3 twenty something friends. I'm 5'9" and the guy I was guarding is 6'4" and 260 lbs. I hardly ever play basketball and you would think I would just be crawling out of bed this morning. Well, thanks to wallsquatting I'm able to play very hard and still move just as easily as the day before....and I know the twenty somethings will all be sore and moving slowly. It always happens. I love the benefits of wallsquatting! Anyway, Grainne, keep up the wallsquats and feel free to share any experiences you're having with them. Much Chi, Max

Hi Max,

Congratulations on recently finishing a gong. It's good to see someone else actively recording their gongs.

BTW, Where are you located?

Hi Lisa - max, Monday:July:11:2005, 7:30 Reply
Hi Lisa, I live in Orange County, California, USA. Yeah, I am glad that you are doing your gongs too, you really help motivate me. I used to have a local teacher that held several classes per week, but I moved last year from his area and since then I have been doing it on my own. Well, not exactly on my own, I know you and other Chi-lel practitioners are with me. I wish you would write more about your experiences with chi; I liked reading your stories. I've actually completed two gongs so far and have had a tough time staying motivated these past few months. It's so different not practicing in a group. If people only knew how powerful this Chi-Lel is they would love it too. I can't remember the last time I was sick or even had a headache. Anyway, Thank-you for acknowledging my gong. Stay beautiful and full of Chi, Max.

Hello again, Max...

It's great to be in contact with someone else doing chi lel. You know, I'm from Orange County originally, Orange County Indiana, that is!

We are in the middle of finishing building a house in a city 2 1/2 hours' drive away and are so on the road, living out of suitcases most of the time. We plan on moving soon. The result is that I am still doing my chi lel, but only the barest necessities to keep going. I long for the days when I had enough time to devote an hour to practice---again, soon, I pray. But I can see that this experience of having little time is showing me how important the practice is to me.

Once the "dust" settles, I hope to be back in the saddle again, spending more time practicing chi lel. I will be happy to share my experiences with everyone again.

Till then....

Good health and chi to all!

Lisa

Lisa, Good luck with your house. I wonder if you are building a meditation room to practice chi-lel in? Well, it's a thought.

Waiting for your stories and experiences. Sending you Chi, Max

Ps. Glad to hear you are even doing just a little to keep your gong going. BTW, How long have you been doing Chi-lel?
practicing since.... - Lisa, Saturday:July:23:2005, 5:56 Reply
I was first taught LCUPCD about 6 years ago or so. At the time, I practiced for about a year or more. Then my practice dropped off with having had two children (NOT twins) and an international move---all in the space of 15 months! Once I recovered from all of that, I have been practicing almost daily for going on two years now.
Two children and a move? - max, Saturday:July:23:2005, 17:1 Reply
Sounds like you have had your hands full. Glad to hear you are back practicing after all that time.... If you're like other people I know then I'm sure your family gets the benefits of your practice too. Keep going Lisa. I hope this move is blessed and that you have free time to practice soon. Much Chi, Max

Hi Jerry,

Yes, I completed another gong. Thanks for asking.

I'm still continuing on, but not "strong". I'm a little bit distracted with other obligations these days, however, I'm doing LCUPCD again--focusing on basics.

Regards....

Hi,
I'm doing my two least favourite exercises for the gong - squats and 3 centres merge. Still dislike squats immensely but finding standing form enjoyable most of the time now. Great to have this resource to see what other people are up to. Laughed out loud to read of someone else practising at 1 in the morning.
Thanks for setting the forum up, Jerry.
Gráinne.

Squats and 3 cm. - Jerry, Thursday:January:27:2005, 2:28 Reply
Hi Grainne,
Yep the squats are a challenge! 3 cm gets very good if you keep at it. It's a tricky one to get the posture just right. But when you do it's very interesting.
Lots of chi to you -

Welcome to the Gong Community Pete! - Jerry, Wednesday:January:12:2005, 23:12 Reply
I realised that there is a need to have a forum specific to the Gong Community, so that keen 'Gongsters' can chat publicly in addition to the personal notes written in the gong logs.

It should also be a good place to post congratulation and comiseration notes when people complete or miss a gong respectively!

Above all though this community is to make the challenge of doing a gong fun - so enjoy yourselves! :)

Much chi to all -
Jerry
