'Gong' means 'work', indeed 'Qi Gong' means 'Energy work'.
To do a 'gong' means to do a sustained period of work or practice. In the context of qigong, this means to do your daily practice for a considerable time without missing a day. In Chi-lel qigong we take this to be 100 days. So, for example if you decided to do a gong of the 'Lift Chi Up Pour Chi Down' form, you would have to do it every day for 100 days. If you miss a day - you have to start all over again! It's quite a challenge and a great way of building up willpower and discipline. More importantly, it's only thorugh sustained practice that your qigong efforts will begin to bear fruit. This is why we do gongs.
To formalise doing a 'gong' and get people to practice regularly, Master Luke Chan devised the '100 day gong sheet'. You can print this out from the Chi-lel website here. You mark off each day with a smiley face as you do your practice. This is an especially good way to get started if you don't use the internet often.
However, if you want to do a gong and record it on this website, you can join the Gong Community - see below!

The Original 100 Day Gong Sheet

On this site we're developing a virtual 'Gong Community'! You
can check off the days of your 100 day gong interactively. At the same
time you can write journal entries for any of the days during your gong;
this way you can keep a great record of your progress.
Everyone else in the community can see how you're doing by viewing your gong sheet. They can read your notes too, so only write those you feel comfortable with sharing publicly. Of course this works both ways, you can see everyone else's progress too!

Step 1: The first thing to do is to create a profile. You can do this above; just fill
in the form. You will then see your gong sheet. |
|
| Step 2: Then, after you have done the first day of your gong, you can start charting it by clicking on the box with that day's date. |
|
Step 3: You will see the 'start gong' square change to a smiley face. If you
want to add a journal entry for that day, click on the smiley face. Afterwards you
will see the 'journal' icon above the face.
|
|
Step 4: The next time you log in, which might be in a few days, you will see
that a number of '?' icons have appeared between the day you started your gong and
today's new date. If you click on today's or yesterday's date, you will have the option
of continuing your gong, i.e. confirming that you've done your practice every day between
that last time you logged on and today. You will then see lots of smiley faces!
Alternatively, if you haven't kept up with your practice, you can click on any day other than today's date, and log that you've broken your gong...
